Pornhub Adds More Crypto Payment Options
Pornhub, one of the most well-known adult entertainment sites across the globe, is providing more cryptocurrency payment options to its growing customer base. It is now adding Tron and ZenCash as one of its accepted payment modes for availing its services.
This means 90 million users of Pornhub can now use digital currencies to subscribe or pay for content at any of their affiliate websites. This includes the Pornhub Premium streaming service as well as its traffic and advertising network. The news, first reported by Variety, was confirmed by Chris Jackson, the firm’s spokesperson.
“Here at Pornhub, it’s important that we cater to our users’ ever-changing payment preferences and, as such, that means accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method, which provide users with anonymity and security. We look forward to continuing to stockpile our arsenal of cryptocurrencies, providing our fans with more payment methods than ever before. Hopefully we are the precursor for widespread adoption across the industry,” Corey Price, vice president of Pornhub, said in a statement.
Moving forward, Pornhub implied it is looking at providing support for other cryptocurrencies in the future.
“Decentralized payment systems have continued to grow in popularity, and cryptocurrency adoption is exploding across a broad economic spectrum. Today, cryptocurrencies are especially viable in the adult entertainment industry because they are privacy-centric and incorporate more anonymity tools than traditional tender,” Price said.
The payment option gives people the capability to pay for adult entertainment privately without the fear of exposure, according to Robert Viglione, co-founder of ZenCash. Tron has commented on the matter as of writing.
TRX, Tron’s token, has become one of the fastest-growing cryptocurrencies in the market although it falls behind bitcoin and ethereum, two of the leading digital currencies worldwide. It has a market capitalization of over $4 billion as of press time.
Pornhub made the announcement after it began accepting Verge as another type of payment. In a blog post, the adult entertainment site had said its users could use this virtual token to pay for its premium services.
“Not only is this an exciting announcement for us and the adult entertainment industry, it’s exciting for the crypto space. History has proven that the adult entertainment industry plays a critical role in adoption for innovative technology. We saw that with VHS, Beta Max, credit card payment icons and, most recently, VR goggles. We expect to see widespread adoption of crypto and blockchain in short order,” Price said at that time.
Price explained the partnership came following they approached the people behind Verge in a deliberate selection process. “We’re extremely excited to offer our fans the ability to use crypto and think Verge, with its focus on anonymity, is the best option – whether for privacy, convenience or both,” he added.
Verge’s supporters earlier ignited rumors regarding a “mystery deal” entered into this year. In March, it moved to collect donations to push through with its collaboration with Pornhub.
Verge, with a market cap of $318.4 million, is trading at $0.02 apiece as of writing.
